Week 12 - 13

I was able to get an extension for my work which was desperately needed and appreciated (thank you). These weeks i have typed up my works to mahara. since i had hand written most of my findings and notes this took quite a long time. Overall i have enjoyed this experienced and have decided that this is definitely the right career path for me. This paper was very interesting and eye opening i learnt alot and will continue to use reflective practice in future.

Week 11

This week i was making my final observation and lesson. I was quite sad, i had really enjoyed my time. This week i observed and taught a lesson on writing. This week he found a article which he dictated to his class first he read normally the second and third time much slower they were to listen and record what was being said. He had other methods for teaching grammar and writing skills but these done on computers and using software i had no access to.

In teaching she did very well and was able to record what i wrote with only spelling errors. She commented on my improvement. She has improved alot in a small amount of time. She asked if i would continue in teaching her and i happily accepted.

Week 10

These week i observed a class teaching on how to improve speaking. The class was very casual they would pair up and discuss a given topic. The teacher would then come listen and help them with the problems he noticed. I noticed they really enjoyed this type of learning approach and seemed to be their favorite.

This week with teaching went very well. I was much more confident and Asami commented on this too. Ive made a huge improvement and feel very happy with my result.  

Week 9

This week i observed how to teach reading. I will need to find a suitable article with which to teach with i think i might use the story of rumpelstiltzkin. I noticed that when he teaches he is very confident. I think i have more of a problem with confidence then the teaching aspect.

The teaching went well ive noticed that Asamis english is much stronger then i had first imagined. Shes also a very hard study and completes whatever i ask her to study during the week.

Week 8

This week i had my first observation i learnt about the academic word list and how to go about doing it. Ive decided to emulate his lessons. Ive missed alot of class and i think ill need to modify my plan to make up for it. Ive decided to give only 4 lessons and observe the same amount.

My first lesson went well even though i was extremely nervous. i really need to work on my confidence but i cant help being so shy.

Week 6

This week I met with my student Asami her level of English was quite low but was able to communicate with her. I talked with her and found what she was looking to improve was her writing and speaking. I explained my brief 2 to her and she was happy to participate. Next week I’ll start giving her lessons. I also observed an English class and learnt about the academic word list and strategies for teaching.  I will now make a lesson plan in which to use and a feedback sheet for Asami. I’m going to have to do some research before I’m ready to start teaching.    

Week 5

 In week 5 my son fell ill and I was unable to come to class or do any work on my brief 2. I did however find someone in which to tutor English in which to tutor a Japanese student named Asami Miura. She is studying English here. I’m looking forward to tutoring her and nervous about it too I haven’t taught anyone before.  

Week 4

This week I managed to catch up with work and complete my brief one. I’m beginning to wonder if my brief 2 will be two difficult to complete. I am however looking forward to gaining experience my chosen career path. I feel better having caught up with my work I hope I will not fall behind again.  

Week 3

This week I am continuing my view on E-portfolios. I am having difficulties in finding relevant information on the subject. Furthermore, I do not know how to cite resources from the internet I will need to do some research into proper web citation. I feel I have fallen even further behind in my work and need to catch up. Fortunately I have the learning outcome and formative assessment sheet so I can easily know where I should be in terms of work. I am yet to decide on what to do for my brief 2; I would like to do something that corresponds to my future goal of teaching English, but I do not know how I would incorporate it into a brief. I am however optimistic in these goals and will continue to work hard to achieve them.

Week 2

In week 2 I was still coming to terms with using Mahara. I find Mahara difficult to use, I had never used or even heard of e-portfolios before I-reflect and was still getting used to the different features it offers. I also found problems in finding information on e-portfolios especially in defining it; finding useable definitions and quotes with proper citations was mostly the problem. However, I eventually was able to manage my Mahara properly and eventually define e-portfolios. Due to problems I was falling behind and was in need of catching up.
